No More Anesthesia

Micro Lipo makes full-body liposuction possible with local anesthesia.

Unless you’re a board-certified anesthesiologist, we would guess that the thought of going under general anesthesia might give you a little bit of anxiety. Although the majority of patients do just fine, there’s always that question of that small percentage of risk. That's just one of the many reasons why we love Micro Lipo!

Micro Lipo is vibration-assisted liposuction performed without any need for general anesthesia or IV sedation. As a board-certified anesthesiologist who has been practicing for over 14 years, Dr. McKinzie is beyond proficient in administering anesthesia safely and effectively and is incredibly conscious of patients” perceptions of pain. However, even with that background and credentialing, she wants to offer her patients the greatest peace of mind possible when undergoing a cosmetic procedure. As a mother of two children, she knows that patients’ minds always go to that ‘what if’ when consenting to an elective procedure. That’s why she has perfected the technique of total tumescent anesthesia.

What does all that mean? Tumescent fluid is basically a mixture of IV fluid, lidocaine-a potent anesthetic, and a little bit of epinephrine. This mixture is infiltrated into the tissue using a microcannula. The result is numbing all the way through the treatment area without the need for IV sedation to make you comfortable.

What about anxiety? We know that if you are awake during a procedure, there is the potential for your nerves to get the best of you. That’s why Dr. McKinzie also offers patients three oral medications to help take the edge off. Nausea? She’s got that covered as well. Nervous about local anesthesia only? We offer oral pain medication as well!

Most of our patients sleep through the procedure or talk and laugh while making conversation with Dr. McKinzie and one of her circulating nurses. Another benefit of this type of anesthesia is that patients are able to enjoy a light meal the morning of their procedure and get to drink fluids to hydrate throughout. This would not be possible with general anesthesia as there is always some type of tube placed in the patient’s airway so they are often prohibited from eating and drinking after midnight on the night of their procedure.

With safety being of the utmost importance, this type of anesthesia, the microcannula used in Micro Lipo, and the proficiency of our clinical providers make vibration-assisted liposuction at McKinzie Aesthetics Center one of the safest ways to permanently eliminate fat from the body.
